Tourism Ministry starts new project for rural areas

In a move that is likely to benefit the local community both economically and socially, the Ministry of Tourism has launched a project to showcase rural life, art, culture and heritage. Addressing the Parliamentary Consultative Committee, the Minister for Tourism, Ms Renuka Chowdhury, said 55 such projects have been sanctioned up to Rs 50 lakh each for infrastructure development. The scheme will see roads within the panchayat limits being improved, funds will be provided for solid waste and sewerage management and wayside amenities and tourist accommodation would be created.
