TURA: Rescue teams in South Garo Hills are expecting to reach the trapped coal miners at Rongsa Awe by Tuesday even as they fear the worst for the men who have been underground for the last five days after their mine caved in. At least eight miners were killed after being trapped inside a coal mine. Rescuers on Monday recovered eight bodies from the mine which caved in on Friday, police said. Rescue operations were still continuing to confirm if someone was still trapped inside. Heart rending scenes were witnessed in the miners' quarters this afternoon as the families, still hopeful about the miners' safe return, came across the lifeless bodies. The presence of a large amount of water and toxic gases inside the deep cave was creating a hindrance to the rescue teams who have been pumping out water in the hope of getting to the miners.
