AHMEDABAD: A stream of toxic and corrosive chemicals spewing into water supply and onto roads is making lives of thousands of residents of Nikol gam a living hell.
While most of them have been forced to install water purification systems to safeguard health, toxic water flowing on roads, in residential societies, gardens and even places of worship is causing skin ailments.
This area was inducted into Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on February 14, 2006, and promised the sky in civic services. More than two years later, the corporation has failed to provide even basic civic amenities.
The moment you enter Nikol gam, you can see the toxic water everywhere. Drinking water that flows from taps looks black. Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB) is as responsible as AMC for this horrible state of affairs.
Residents allege that AMC and GPCB authorities have been favouring industrial units at GIDC, Vatva, allowing them to discharge effluents freely.
