Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corp. will turn down the U.S. Justice Department's final offer to settle charges that the pollution-detection computers on 2.2 million 1996-98 Toyota and Lexus models fail to comply with the law, USA Today said late last week. The deal, with a deadline of 5 p.m., EDT, on Friday, could have cost Toyota more than $100 million, the paper said. Toyota's rejection of the deal marks the first time an automaker has refused to settle Justice Department charges involving emissions, the paper said.
