The much hyped tree plantation scheme launched under the Tarun Trivani Van Yogna with an aim to increase the area under green cover has become the latest casualty of this trend. The scheme has come to a disastrous end in the district, thanks to the lack of budgetary as well as logistic support from the administration in Haryana. Apart from the ultimately 'death' of over 90 per cent of the total saplings, the scheme also has eaten a major chunk of the funds of the gram panchayats, which were virtually forced to embrace the scheme just to please the officials.
