ROURKELA: The echo of land acquisition for Posco steel plant in Jagatsinghpur district reverberates in the tribal hinterland of Khandadhar, as the spectre of iron ore mining by the South Korean company haunts the primitive tribals near the waterfall. Disquiet prevailed in the villages in and around the bio-rich reserve, about 85 km from Rourkela, with the primitive Paudi Bhuiyan tribes apprehensive of losing their ancestral land to the company. Earlier, the State government had sanctioned a lucrative iron ore mining proposal to Posco over 2,500 hectares area at Khandadhar in Lahunipara block of Bonai subdivision. Upset are people like the community priest of Paudi Bhuiyan tribe, Renu Choudhary of Budabhui village, about 500 metres from the waterfall who get insecure at the idea of losing their natural habitat. Khandadhar Mahila Suraksha Samiti president Baita Pradhan of Bandhberna is however firm to fight Posco tooth and nail.
