As many as 1,000 star green-coloured turtles worth Rs 5.5 lakh were recovered by Customs officials at Bangalore airport on Sunday and one person arrested in this connection. He has been identified as Jameel, a resident of Chennai. Officials recovered 500 golden parrot, snake fishes and 1,000 star green-coloured turtles. The value of the fish is estimated at Rs 2 lakh. Jameel was arrested as soon as he alighted from the Singapore-Bangalore flight IC 5958 around 9:45 am. Jameel had packed fishes and turtles in plastic bags and a cardboard box containing water. There were 15 plastic bags and a cardboard box which were packed in a suitcase. Jameel wanted to sell them to customers in Bangalore, officials said. The fishes have been handed over the Aquarium Department on Cubbon Road and turtles to the Forest Department.
