Two farmers committed suicide in Chhattisgarh in the past four days.
Gendram Dhivar (45) consumed pesticide reportedly because of debt burden in Abhanpur block of Raipur district on December 23.
He was rushed to hospital by his family members, but he died on the night of December 25.
A tribal farmer, Lal Sai Gond (30), killed himself in Surajpur district on Saturday. A suicide note said he had been driven to death by “the burden of excessive debt”.
The suicides have been reported when a “Krushi Mela” (farm exhibition) organised by the State government is under way amid much fanfare in Raipur.
The Raman Singh government has refused to admit even a single farmer suicide due to farm-related reasons during its 12-year reign. The government has asked the district collectors of Raipur and Surajpur to look into the “real reasons” for the suicides.
