At least two industrial workers were killed and seven others received burn wounds in an explosion at a chemical unit in the Tarapur MIDC early on Sunday. Two workers were killed and seven others received burn injuries in an explosion in a chemical unit in Tarapur MIDC, the industrial estate in the western part of Thane district, police said. The explosion took place in the production section of Sterling Pvt Ltd, a company which manufactures chemcials. In the explosion that took place around 1.00 am, two workers, who received more than 70 per cent burns, died, police added. The deceased have been identified as S B Sawant, 42, and Jaihind Tiwari, 34, they said. Seven other workers who were injured, some of them seriously, have been admitted to the TMR hospital. The Boisar police have registered a case of accidental death and are investigating further. According to the police, loading of Op-25 chemical was in progress in the production unit when the explosion took place.
