The charm of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) funds of Urban Development Ministry has finally forced the West Bengal Government to meet the conditions to adopt the program in totality. The State Government has agreed to set up a committee to look into the scope for reforms in areas like the Repeal of Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act 1976. The JNNURM aims at among other things has focused its attention at integrated development of infrastructure services in cities, establishment of linkages between asset creation and management through a slew of reforms for long term project sustainability, and provision of basic services to the urban poor.
