UIPC to develop 180 MW hydro-power projects

The Uttarakhand Infrastructure Project Company (UIPC) will develop 180 MW capacity small hydro-power projects in the State. A 71 MW capacity power project is being developed in the first phase. The State Government will receive a premium of `36 crore from this in addition to which investment in Uttarakhand will also increase. This was decided in the UIPC board meeting presided over by the State Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar in the Secretariat.
It was revealed during the meet that work on various projects including 21 MW and 11 MW projects at Khutani and Seraghat respectively in Bageshwar, 19 MW project at Balgad in Pithoragarh and 19 MW project at Nayar in Pauri will be started in the near future. The CS directed officials to complete formalities in time for the next phase in which the small hydro power projects slated to be developed include the 24 MW, 12 MW and 24 MW projects in Chunni-Semi, adhmaheshwar and Bangari respectively in Rudraprayag, 16 MW and 5 MW projects in Kosa and Dunagiri respectively in Chamoli. Necessary action should be taken to resolve problems being faced at any level. Kumar said that the State Government is attempting to maximise the utilisation of available water resources for increasing power generation. Ropeways are also being constructed with the collaboration of private sector to encourage tourism.
The construction of Thuligad-Purnagiri, Janki Chatti-Yamunotri and Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeways will be started in the near future. Kumar directed that the Dehradun-Mussoorie ropeway should be constructed in two parts including one from Purkul to Mussoorie and one from Hathipav to Mussoorie.
