UK, German NGOs worried over eviction of forest encroachers

The German and United Kingdom-based NGOs Institut Fur Okologie nd Aktions Ethnologie (INFOE) and FERN, along with six other reputed European NGOs which aim to improve Eurpoean Union (EU) activities in order to achieve conservation and sustainable management of forests in respect of the rights of forest peoples, greater transparency in EU, aid to tropical forest countries, have jointly appealed to stop forced eviction of indigenous and tribal peoples of Assam and other States from their traditional lands. In their separate e-mail messages to the Centre and State Governments, Mr Sabine S Chielman of INFOE and Sara Street of FERN, expressed shock over the news of violent displacement of indigenous and tribal communities of Assam.
