Union coal and mines minister Uma Bharati, who is leading the BJP campaign against Congress strongman Digvijay Singh in Madhya Pradesh for the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state, on Monday, opened a new front against the chief minister by taking up the cause of the poor in the state. Ms Bharati met Union food and consumer affairs minister Sharad Yadav at his residence and after complaining about the failure of the Madhya Pradesh government in distributing food grains to the poor under various government-sponsored schemes, she appealed that the scope of the Antyodaya Scheme, under which food grains are given to the poorest of the poor at a nominal price, be increased.
