Janshala, a special focus programme launched in 1998 for the children of the urban poor in Rajasthan, has received kudos from the UN community. First of its kind for the deprived children in cities and also the first joint attempt of the UN agencies to help achieve universal elementary education, Janshala has been adjudged by the United Nations as one of the "best practices" in the World during 2002-03.
