UN to safeguard forests in Astore

The forest department would launch three new projects to save forests and wildlife of the region, said Secretary Forests Abdul Qayyum khan on Thursday. Talking to media he said these projects were being sponsored by the United Nations which would cost Rs. 40.85 million. He said forests were the assets of the country and it was the prime responsibility of everyone to save this asset. “They not only generate revenue for the area but also help preventing floods and storms,” he added.
He appealed the masses to cooperate with the department in order to meet the required results of these three new schemes. The government was persistently working for the welfare of masses, said President PPP Gilgit and Advisor to Chief Minister, Muhammad Mussa on Thursday. Talking to APP he said all available resources were being utilized to rehabilitate flood affectees in different districts of the region. He said the government had given compensation to Atabad affectees and the local administration along with different NGOs were also helping them in this regard.
