An extensive ground fire of an unprecedented nature has burnt to ashes full-grown grass and small plants in over 1,000 hectares of the 264 sq km Gautala wildlife santuary in Kannad tehsil, 80 km north west of the Aurangabad district headquarters. The fire, first sighted on March 23, had crawled along the forest floor for two days before being brought under control.
