Underground drainage planned for 13 cities

The State government is considering to provide underground drainage to 13 cities, including Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, at a cost of Rs 1,273 crore in four years.
The other cities are: Eluru, Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur, Rajahmundry, Warangal, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Guntur, Nellore and Kakinada. While Rs 520 crore would be spent during 2007-08, Rs 753 crore would be spent during 2008-09.
According to official sources, the government would ask consultants to prepare detailed reports between January and March next year, process and obtain administrative and technical sanction in the next three months, process the tenders and ground the works from July 2006 onwards.
