Power and Energy Ministry says the Jaffna peninsula is to receive uninterrupted power supply from November following the completion of the 36 MW thermal power plant in Chunnakkam. A Ministry spokesman said the construction is near completion and the power station will start its operation early November. The Ministry of Power and Energy says 150,000 families in the Jaffna Peninsula will receive electricity connection through this project initiated under the advice of President Rajapaksa in order to meet the electricity needs of the people in Jaffna. The government also plans to reconstruct the 67.2 km transmission line from the Kilinochchi Grid Substation to the Chunnakam Grid substation in Jaffna once normalcy is restored in the region.
