Opposition UNIP Kikonge ward councillor Michael Mwaangala in Chavuma district has asked the Zambian government to come up with a clear forestry policy which would help curb careless cutting of trees. Mwaangala charged that those currently dealing in timber are cutting trees without any measure of replacing them. "Much of the timber was currently at risk from small scale traders who cut the trees for sale in Lusaka without much care, contributing to deforestation," Mwaangala said.
