The Planning Commission today gave a go-ahead to Uttar Pradesh for its annual Plan outlay of Rs 35,000 crore for 2008-09, representing an increase of about 40 per cent over the allocation during the previous fiscal The Planning Commission has also meeting between the Planning Commission member, Mr B.K. Chaturvedi, and the State Chief Secretary, Mr A.K. Gupta. The Planning Commission has also agreed to consider the State's demand for additional Central assistanceof Rs 5,000 crore, Mr Guptsfsaid, adding no final decision has yet been taken. The panel has, however, agreed to the Rs 35,000 crore Plan outlay over Rs 25,000 crore during 2007-08. In its presentation before the Commission, the UP Government expressed its intention to build Taj International airport crore under the public private partnership (PPP) mode. Apart from the Taj Airport, the state proposes to take up various other projects, including Ganga Expressway and five power projects under PPP at a total cost of Rs 1.31 lakh crore. The State representatives, imated cost of Rs 4,000 during the meeting, also demanded a special package for development of Bundelkhand and Vindhyachal regions on the lines of assistance given to Uttarakhand and other states for expediting development work. The Uttar Pradesh Government has already submitted a proposal of Rs 10,684 crore to the Centre to ameliorate the condition of farmers in the drought-hit regions of the State. TheUP Government's proposal also includes setting up an Agriculture University at Banda and relaxation of 100 days employment ceiling under the NREG scheme in Bundelkhand.
