UP flood: toll rises up to 75

With the death of 12 more people toll from Uttar Pradesh flood has gone up to 75 as flood situation continues to be grim in the state with over 5 lakh people rendered homeless. The Government spokesman said here on Wednesday that the toll in the recent incidents of floods has touched 75. The highest death has been reported from Bahriach where 34 people have died so far. The situation in Bahriach and Balrampur is still critical as the flood waters of Ghagra and Rapti were yet to recede, official said adding that rail and road services have been snapped as the flood water has submerged the rail tracks and state highway. A population of around 5 lakhs in over 1500 villages of 11 districts was affected by the floods in the state. Army has been called in Bahriach for rescue work. Besides three teams of the NDRF were working round the clock, official said. Meanwhile, a report from Sidharthanagar said that Burhi Rapti breached the dam at Dalpatnagar-Parsohan at Itwa. The breach has washed away the Itwa-Domariaganj road. UP Assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey, who represents Itwa, is already in the constituency. A report from Faizabad said that swollen Ghaghra river has crippled the normal life. The famous 14 kosi and 5 kosi parikrama routes in Faizabad have been stopped because the parikrama route is under water. DM Anil Dhingra said that the Saryu river in Ayodhya was flowing over the danger mark affecting 40 villages. In Rudauli tehsil the Tathbandh area is submerged water forcing people to move out of the village. Ram Singh the resident of Rudauli said that the schools and colleges have been closed. There is no relief from Government side and people are starving. A few government officials came but did nothing for the flood victims, he said.
