Upper Narmada Project to be taken up this year

Bhopal: Upper Narmada Project, one of the major projects out of proposed 29 projects is likely to be taken up in the current year. The project would create an irrigation potential of 18616 Hectares in tribal dominated Dindori and Anuppur districts. The estimated cost of the project is Rs. 570 Cr. Informing this Vice Chairman NVDA O.P.Rawat said that Upper Narmada Project over river Narmada has been cleared by the Ministry of Environment & Forest (Govt. of India) and investment clearance by Planning Commission has also been issued for the project. NVDA is also all set to take up the work of another major irrigation project(Halone) in the Valley. This project would create irrigation potential of 13000 Hectare in Mandla district. The estimated cost of Halone project would be Rs. 331 Cr. The investment clearance of Planning Commission for the project is likely to be issued in near future. Rawat informed that with the effective financial management for the ongoing and new irrigation projects NVDA has made and expenditure of Rs. 67057.29 Lakhs out of total budget allotment of Rs. 98835.41 Lakhs upto Dec. 2010. This expenditure becomes 67.85 percent of the total budget allotted till Dec. 2010. In financial year 2009-10 the expenditure was 48.26 percent and in the year 2008-09 it was 47.30 percent till third quarter of financial year he added. Vice Chairman informed that we have prepared 'Vision 2015'. Accordingly strategic approach is being laid down to achieve yearly targets. Besides taking up the work on new projects the pace of work is being enhanced on ongoing projects. He informed that at present work on Lower Goi Project (Rs. 360 Cr.) Upper Veda (Rs.224 Cr.), Bargi Diversion Project (Rs. 5127 Cr.), Indira Sagar Canals (Rs. 3182.77 Cr.) and Omkareshwar Canals (Rs. 2504.80 Cr.) is in rapid progress.
