After the European Union and Japan, the US has challeged India's automobile policy and has sought formal consultations on the subject. The US objection is on similar lines voiced by ther other two developed countries that the policy requiring foreign auto giants wishing to set up passnger car projects in India to maintain foreign exchange neutrality militates against the World Trade Organisation(WTO) rules.
