US delegation on 10-day visit to explore avenues in nuclear sector

A high-level delegation of US officials and nuclear scientists is on a 10-day visit to India to explore ways of cooperation in the atomic energy sector. Representatives from the Idaho National Laboratory (INL), the US administration's key nuclear engineering and science laboratory, are expected to identify nuclear development opportunities and partnerships that will benefit both countries, a US embassy statement said. "All advanced nuclear energy nations benefit by understanding each other's nuclear enterprises and collaborating where appropriate," said John Grossenbacher, INL director and head of the delegation. During the visit, the representatives from INL, will interact with leaders and researchers in the government, industry and academia. The delegation will meet representatives of higher education at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai, Department of Atomic Energy, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India and NTPC. INL which represented the US energy department during negotiations of the 123 Agreement on civil nuclear energy cooperation. While in Mumbai, INL will also present a charter to the newly established India Section of the American Nuclear Society. Similar INL delegations have visited China, South Korea, France, Canada, and Norway.
