A large number of Van Gujjar men and women today expressed dismay over the misuse of funds to spread misery among forest dwelling communities and charged the proposed Rajaji National Park authorities with abetting poaching and timber smuggling. Participating in a panchayat held on the periphery of the proposed Park, speakers analysed the reasons behind the destruction of the forest cover and wildlife of the region. The dry riverbeds were widening because dead wood was left in them and this dammed them up during monsoons resulting in water cutting into the banks.
