The participation of people in forest management and conservation has yielded very encouraging results in Madhya Pradesh state. The cutting of bamboos through gram Van Samities has led to cutting of a record 91,000 notional tonnes of bamboo in year 2002-03 in Balaghat district. Balaghat is the only district which produces high quality bamboos in abundance.
