Vast U.P. forests go to Uttaranchal

Uttar Pradesh would loss two-thirds of its forest area to the newly carved out Uttaranchal State resulting in a net revenue loss of Rs 100 crores.Once endowed with vast forest wealth, the undivided Uttar Pradesh had 5,161,859 square km of forest area but it will now have to be content with only 17,259 sq km forest atea, according to official sources said.
