A training camp to train up veterinary doctors, field assistants and Rapid Response Team members of all the veterinary dispensaries of Goalpara district on bird-flu ended at Goalpara on July 4, said Veterinary Officer of the district Dr K K Dutta. The Government of India-sponsored training camp was joined by three experts from the Khanapara-based North Eastern Regional Disease Diagnosis Laboratory as resource persons. Dr Dutta said that the State government had been laying more stress now on equipping the veterinary doctors and para-veterinary staff of the districts bordering West Bengal and Bangladesh with the knowledge and infrastructure to combat bird-flu. The Goalpara camp was the second such camp in the State. The first one was held about a week back. Hailakandi, Karimganj and ten other places have been selected for holding such camps in the coming days to prepare the Veterinary Department to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease. Additional Deputy Commissioner, Goalpara, B Barman inaugurated the camp. Seven fertility camps for sterile cows will also be held in the district. Assistance to the State for Control of Animal Diseases (ASCA) camp sponsored by the Government of India is also going on in the district covering all its dispensaries as a preventive measure against epidemics of the livestock and poultry, Dr Dutta said.
