In a view of the increasing forest fires, it has been decided that the menace will be jointly dealt with by the official forest protection force and the newly-formed Surat village forest fire protection committees. With nearly 413 cases of forest fires in South Gujarat last year, affecting nearly 300 ha of forests causing a loss of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh.
