The proposal for an airport in the tourist area of Banikhet in Chamba district has not materialised due to procedural wrangles. The proposal was moved almost 10 years back. Little progress has been made so far. The project is now being taken up afresh as under the earlier proposal 5,500 trees in the Taudhar Reserve Forest were to be felled, for which permission was refused by the Environment Ministry.
