While villagers in the western part of Orissa are preparing themselves to face an acute scarcity of drinking water in the scorching summer ahead, residents of the tiny Kantapali village in Bolangir district are unruffled. Screaming for the government's help is rarely heard from the village. Their forest protection bid initiated in 1980s has enabled the village to achieve self-dependency. The outcome of the initiative speaks volumes of the sacrifices made by villagers for the regeneration of forest.
