Villagers sore at 'abolition' of forest rights

A large number of villagers, mainly tribals, in the Shahpur area of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh, are at present involved in a direct conforntation with the forest depratment authorities and have launhced a strong protest against the implementation of the World Bank funded forestry project. The villagers are particularly agitated over the "abolition" of their Nistar rights in the forest areas being covered under various schemes of this project.
