Collector holds meeting to review three municipalities
Rs. 29 crore of allotted Rs. 35.67 crore spent so far on project
Project did not see much progress because of Assembly polls
VILLUPURAM: Collector C.T.Manimekalai has set a deadline of September 30 for completing the underground drainage project in Villupuram town.
She convened a meeting here on Saturday to review the performance of the three Municipalities, including that of Villupuram, Tindivanam and Kallakurichi, and 15 Town Panchayats.
The Collector said that of the total amount of Rs. 35.67 crore sanctioned for the project, so far Rs. 29 crore had been spent. The pipeline had been laid for a length of 86 km and only three km was left to be covered. Because of the Assembly elections, there was not much progress on the project in the past three months. However, the execution would be expedited to complete the project within the time limit, she said.
Ms. Manimekalai further said that owing to short supply of sand the government projects had suffered a setback. She underscored the point that priority would accorded in making available sand for government projects.
The possibility of having an exclusive quarry for prospecting sand for the government projects would also be explored. She called upon the civic bodies to construct roads and ensure adequate number of streetlights.
The Collector insisted upon the civic bodies to collect all arrears in regard to property tax, water cess and profession tax. She emphatically said that uninterrupted power supply should be given for maintaining regular drinking water supply.
If need be, separate transformers should also be installed to ensure this. Assistant Director (Town Panchayats) A.Sadayappan, Villupuram Municipal Commissioner Sivakumar and others participated.
