Thickening smoke from forest and ground fires reduced visibility in Indonesia's Riau province on Sumatra island to below 500 metres (yards) the meteorology office said. The deterioration came as officials said they had evidence which would lead to the prosecution of least four large plantation companies in the province for flouting the law and continuing to burn off land.
