The huge quantity of pulverised volcanic sand (ash) available at the Barren Island, Port Blair, is of rare quality but contains properties required for using it as a substitute of sand as a construction material, according to a scientist after his recent visit to the lone active volcano in the sub-continent. This type of sand available aplenty in the Barren Island could resolve the problem of sea sand whose collection is restricted due to environmental reasons.
