Political parties may run short of any serious issue to raise at the hustings. But, severe shortage of drinking water has become an issue of great concern for the electorate across the State, including Bangalore.
Almost all the districts are hit by scarcity of potable water and it is being supplied once a week in North Karnataka districts of Bagalkot, Bijapur and Belgaum. Though the Government is supplying drinking water through tankers to the affected places, it has not been able to quench the thirst of people in all areas.
Political leaders and the candidates in the fray are facing the heat. Drinking water scarcity is a common issue that people are taking up with leaders in both urban and rural areas during electioneering. Women, who have to walk several kilometres to fetch water, are taking up cudgels against leaders.
