ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan has said that since organic farming is slightly expensive, interested farmers will be extended support to experiment with zero budget natural farming, a pesticide-free method being advocated by Maharashtra-based environmentalist and farmer Subhash Palekar.
Inaugurating a seven-day State-level training workshop on Zero Budget Natural Farming at the Gandhi Smaraka Grama Seva Kendra (GSGSK) at S.L. Puram here on Monday, Mr. Achuthanandan said similar farming techniques, where there was no use of chemicals or fertilizers and the cost was a bare minimum, were being tried out by a few farmers in Palakkad over the last couple of years. The results were encouraging and the State government, given its experience with pesticides like Endosulfan in Kasaragod, was not against such environment-friendly practices, he said.
