At a time when the government and other NGOs are adopting several measures for the preservation of forest resources and the Supreme Court has imposed ban on felling of trees, wanton destruction of trees in the entire South Kamrup area in Assam has been continuing unabated for the last several years. Wood smuggling has been flourishing at Boko, Chhaygaon, Bamunigaon, Loharghat, Mirza, Kulsi, Chandubi, Singra, Bondapara, Nagarbera, Chamaria and Rani areas in South Kamrup. Rani and Mirza reserve forests are under Kamrup east division while Kulsi, Loharghat, Bamunigaon, Boko, Bondapara, Singra etc fall under Kamrup West division of the Forest department.
