Warangal valleys now echo tourism

Warangal, July 6: Backpackers who want to trek through deep forests and nature lovers who love to slowly sail across waters are flocking to the district, which is fast turning into a favourite eco and adventure tourism destination. Enchanting locations such as the Lakhnavaram Lake, the Pakhal wildlife sanctuary, and the mysterious Pandavulaguttalu are attracting hundreds of visitors every day. The construction of the 170 metre-long suspension bridge across the Lakhnavaram Lake at a cost of Rs 50 lakh has given a fillip to eco-tourism in the district. Every day, flocks of tourists can be seen standing on the bridge, drinking in the breathtaking view of the serene lake located in the deep forests in Pasra area, around 75-km from here. Understanding the potential of the beautiful lake, which is endowed with five islands, the Centre has sanctioned a project worth Rs 4.5 crore to turn it into a major eco-tourism spot. As part of this project, floating hotels, food courts, and cottages are coming up at the Lakhnavaram Lake. This is expected to attract eco tourists in hundreds to the scenic lake located in Govindraopet mandal. The area was once a hotbed of Maoists and was out of bounds for tourists and even local people. But with the Maoists being beaten back, it is now bustling with activity. On weekends and holidays, scores of adventure tourists trek through the forest to reach the serene lake that flows calmly among imposing hillocks. "I have never seen such a beautiful place in my life," says Mr K. Srinivasa Raju, the joint collector who is coordinating tourism development in the area. "It deserves worldwide attention.
