WASA plans Tk 81.21cr water supply in Narayanganj

Dhaka Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) has undertaken a Taka 81.21 crore plan to supply safe drinking water to the dwellers of Narayanganj replacing the existing water supply machineries and setting up of new deep tube-wells during the current fiscal year. According to Narayanganj maintenance, operation and distribution services (MODS) of WASA, of the total amount WASA will provide 12.5 per cent while the rest of the amount would be utilised from the annual development programmes (ADP). Under the programme, 12 new deep tube-wells will be set up at different places of the town and 5 old deep tube-wells would be replaced by new ones. Water treatment plants at Godnyle and Sonakanda would be modernized to improve the production capacity. The existing 35 kilometer long old water pipe line would also be replaced. At present six crore liters of water is being supplied daily through 41 kilometer long water distribution pipe line covering Narayanganj pourasabha, Kadamrasul pourasabha under Bandar upazila, Siddhirganj pourasabha, and Fatullah union with 12,000 water connections. When contacted, executive engineer of WASA Ashim Kumar Ghosh told BSS that after completion of the project additional six crore liters of safe drinking water would be supplied.
