WASA to complete 7km sewers in Uttara by June

The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority will complete seven kilometres of drainage lines in Uttara residential area by June this year to protect the area from water logging during monsoons. The WASA will also install another 15km drainage lines in phases in the Uttara Model Town after following completion of the on-going work of the 7km lines, officials concerned said. The Dhaka WASA's drainage and sewerage division superintendent engineer, Waliullah Sikdar, told New Age that the installation project for the seven kilometre drainage line began in January. The cost of the project is Tk 10 crore which includes funds from donors, the official added. A large portion of the Uttara Model Town, that lacks drainage facilities, is inundated during rains every monsoon immense sufferings to the residents of the area, the WASA officials said. Lack of drainage and sewerage lines in the area is also one of the major reasons for the pollution of the Uttara Lake as sewerage lines of the buildings are connected to it, officials informed. At present, the existing surface drainage of the Dhaka City Corporation is also connected with the Uttara Lake, corporation sources said.
