Used neeles and syringes are being found here and there in the nursing stations and in other places, and these are being reused. These observations made by Pollution Control Board (PCBA) team while inspecting the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital, and thereby confirming that the impact of the Bio-Medical Waste (management and handling) Rule,1998, in this premier medical college of the State is negligible. The PCBA swung into action after the Gauhati High Court, taking a suo motto case, directed it to inform the court about the disposal system of bio-medicl waste in the three medical colleges of the State. The court conteded that the medical colleges, were violating the pollution control norms.
