Scores of people have protested in Beijing against a garbage disposal' plant that they say has been releasing noxious fumes into the air, with two demonstrators hurt in a scuffle with security officials, a rights group said Sunday.
The Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy, which is based in Hong Kong, said that the protesters called Saturday for the resignation of the top environment official in the Chaoyang district of Beijing, where the garbage plant is located.
The rights group said one of the organizers of the protest was missing Saturday night. According to the group, the plant had closed during the Olympics but resumed operations
after the Games ended.
