Much of the adverse criticism by Opposition parties on the Waste Land Development Programme of the Tamil Nadu State Government is unfounded. While the Opposition parties have accused the government of formulating the scheme to lease out government land to private parties, the scheme has ruled out any such provision. "No individual will be allotted land on lease under the scheme," according to the website of the Agricultural Department.
