Govt : The government on Monday said that water was a highly subsidised commodity and there was an urgent need to increase the water rates to avoid any wastage. This was also affecting the irrigational programme of agriculture, Mr Pant said, adding that there was an urgent need for a rigorous economic analysis of irrigated agriculture and massive water literacy awareness in order to mitigate the damaging effects.
