Water Bill stuck for now

Buckling under pressure from its own MLAs and worried about its public image, the Congress government in Delhi has developed cold feet over the amendment Bill on groundwater extraction. Despite specific directions from the Prime Minister and the Union water resources ministers, Delhi government has decided to defer the introduction of the Bill till the next session in March. The government will not introduce the amendment to Delhi Water Board Act 1998, which would have given Delhi Jal Board (DJB) powers to regulate groundwater extraction, in the current session of Delhi Assembly.
