The Telugu Desam state president, Mr Nara Chandrababu Naidu, on Tuesday found fault with the Godavari water policy of the Congress government. Speaking to newsmen, Mr Naidu said that the government has no vision in using Godavari river water for the purpose of irrigation. He said that the projects taken up by Dummugudem Link Canal Project and Indirasagar Irrigation Projects were not pragmatic and the government is wasting crores of rupees by going to impractical projects. "The TD government app-ointed Godavari River Aut-hority Board for the proper use of river waters by extending it to all the backward areas," he reminded. He said that the government failed to check the Babli project being built by Maharashtra government on Godavari. He said that the irrigation areas in Nizamabad and Karimnagar district would be hit with the construction of the project. "The people of the state sent 29 Congress MPs to the Parliament and these people's representatives failed in halting the project," he said. The TD chief did not spare the chance for giving promises to the people. "If our party comes to power, we will allocate Rs 600 crore in the budget for the uplift of minorities. We would set up separate residential convent schools for the kids of minorities." He said that the TD would also take up the welfare of retired employees and their pension problems would be resolved as soon as possible. Referring the economic policies, he said that the inflation rate had gone up to 7.5 per cent and the prices of essential commodities are all time high. He said that the UPA government failed to check the inflation. "Why were Union finance minister and prime minister worrying when the share bazaar collapsed," he questioned. He said that only two per cent people of the country invested in share market and 98 per cent people were aloof to it. "It is not correct to give that much priority to shares by the government when majority not caring it," he observed. He said that Chief Minister is concentrating more on Idupulapaya and Kadapa and setting universities there. "It is not proper to develop his native place at the cost of the other backward areas," he said.
