A member of the State biodiversity board, DS Srivastava, has asked the Palamu tiger reserve authorities to draw up a contingency plan to meet the rain water deficit in the National Park and elsewhere in this 1,026 square kilometre spread tiger reserve.
The biodiversity board member alleged that about hundred small and big nullahs crisscrossing this PTR have no water in it at all.The other water bodies in this PTR will go a complete dry this November itself he feared if no rain position in period like Bhado so goes on here.Srivastava has suggested measures to be taken up. First all water holes be further deepened with de silting of it. There are more than 300 water holes for wild life here.A freshening of water hole can save the situation to a great extent he opined.
Again water be transported through/by tankers in the National Park Betla. This park has a dozen water plates where monkeys, deer, langurs come and drink water. The water plate is of concrete and contains good amount of water. It can be replenished by water tankers too if rains are elusive.Srivastava wants ties of PTR officials with villagers to be further strengthened as there is all possibility of wildlife going astray in human populace areas in search of water and thus there is a chance of wildlife getting a victim of man's hostility in this situation.
He said he would be soon writing about this water crisis in PTR to principal secretary forest and environment and to PCCF DK Srivastava too. Deer is the first to go astray for water and it is highly vulnerable to any arrow shot . Leopard too goes out. So goes out the bear in parts of Garu, Mahudanad.
