Since the onset of summer, Tripunithura, Maradu and Kumalam areas which come under Tripunithura sub-division of Kerala Water Authority, have been facing acute water shortage. Although scores of temple ponds preserve the underground water source upto a certain extent, the fast spreading metropolitan flat culture and high potentiality of this residential area, due to the presence of the industrial zone, Ambalamugal, the available water demand of drinking water.
