Residents of several colonies including those of Madhapur near Hitech city area are being supplied with water mixed with faecal matter by Hyderabad Metro-
politan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB).
As per the Institute of Preventive Medicine (IPM) reports, almost all major colonies have an abnormal Most Probable Number (MPN) of coliform bacteria and E.coli in the drinking water samples.
The chemical pollution theory is also ruled out in Bholakpur incident as there are natraces of chemicals in the sample tests conducted by IPM, which said that HMWSSB claims are not true.
Apart from Madhapur area, Guttala, Begumpet and Balajinagar are also affected due to water contamination. The other dangerous areas where more than 1,000 MPN of coliform bacteria per 100 ml were found are Boggulkunta, Uppal, Malakpet, Chanchalaguda, Gowliguda, Erragadda, Tar-naka, Bhojagutta, Jummerat Bazaar, Esamia Bazar, Mallepally, Hanuman Teki-di, Lalapet, Bhoiguda, Seet-garambagh, Yapral, Rezi-mental Bazar, Balapur, Gol-naka, Saidabad, Shalibanda, Fr. Balaiah Nagar in Alwal, Chilkalguda, Kachiguda, NTR Nagar, and Cherlapal-
Several people from Malakpet on Friday, were admitted to Fever hospital on Friday after they suffered Acute Diarrhoea Disease.
Indian Medical Association College of General Practitioners secretary Dr P. Pulla Rao said, "When faecal matter from drainage mixes with drinking water the E.coli is found in the samples. Presence of more coliform bacteria is nothing but an indication of faecal matter mixing with drinking water,"
Even in Bholkapur reservoir the water sample collected in January this year showed 1,609 MPN of coliform bacteria.
